Family says goodbye to slain Army daughter
The body of Army Sgt. Kimberly Walker is back home.
Walker survived three tours in Iraq but was murdered on Valentine’s Day.
Members of her family, close friends and military colleagues gathered at the airport as her body arrived from Colorado Tuesday evening.
Her flag-draped coffin was taken off the plane and placed in a hearse as military members stood at attention.
At the JC Battle Funeral Home, members of the Patriot Guard put up flags and honored Walker.
Walker was scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan this summer.
“She was an outstanding solider. Served her country. It’s just a shame. But again, we want family to know we support them,” said Mike Hamilton with the Patriot Riders.
Walker was killed on Feb. 14 in a hotel room covered in flower petals in Colorado Springs. Her boyfriend, Army Sgt. Montreli Mayo is charged with her murder.
Walker’s funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at St. Joseph Church. She was remembered as a loving, caring patriotic woman who took pride in serving her country.
“I’m glad she’s back home. Relief, knowing she is now in good hands,” said Walker’s twin sister Kara.
Walker will be buried on Wednesday with full military honors at Springrove Cemetery.
