SSG Donald Sutton

One man is a force to be reckoned with anything when it comes to anything mechanical and is a life saver, too. Staff Sgt Donald Sutton is a humble guy at Fort Carson. He’s also a life saver. Up until now, we never publicly knew those moments that led up to a chapter in his life that he will never forget.

March 29th of last year, Donald Sutton was on I-25 near Fountain. He saw a multi-vehicle accident that also involved a semi truck. He told me that he thought the semi was going to go through the guard rail. Sutton stopped his car, got out and did what his military training taught him to do, “I heard the truck driver yell that the door is jammed closed. He can’t get it open. We saw the fire on the passenger side and my main concern is that he is out and no one else was in the truck.” Donald told me he and others got this trucker safely down the embankment. The man he saved suffered some smoke inhalation and bumps and bruises, but other than that he walked away from the accident.

SSG Donald Sutton has been in the military for 21 years, been deployed three times and said, “What you learn about how to react in a wartime situation will actually benefit you in a civilian environment. Sutton is getting ready to retire, be a civilian and take on that new challenge. He’s already a great tank mechanic. Now, he wants to learn the in’s and outs of computers. He’s going to school to get that education and become an instructor with the Wounded Warrior Project.

SSG Donald Sutton is currently assigned to Kilo Company, 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3 rd Brigade Combat Team and he is also a proud member of our Wear Friday Heroes.
