Ft. Carson remembers fallen soldier

Ft. Carson service members honored the life of a fallen soldier Friday, at the Mountain Post’s Soldier’s Memorial Chapel.

Private First Class Richard Gerald Nuncio II died Jan. 22 in San Antonio, Texas. His death is under investigation.

The chapel was packed Friday afternoon. Friends got emotional as they remembered one of their own.

“He was a great man,” Spc. Zechariah Gonzales said. “He was my best friend.”

Private First Class Nuncio served as a military policeman in the 984th Military Police Company, 759th Military Police Battalion. He earned numerous awards, including the Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.

But it’s his personality that his friends will miss the most. They said he was funny, intelligent, and a loving son and father.

He leaves behind a wife, his daughter Jazmine and son Richard III, along with loving friends.

“I love him,” Spc. Gonzales said. “He’ll always have a place in my heart.”
