State troopers investigate alcohol as factor in deadly crash

Colorado State troopers said Katherine Banzhaf, 26, was killed in a crash on Interstate 25 south of Baptist Rd around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers said she was the passenger in a car that Ashley Brooks, 27, was driving. Brooks was seriously hurt in the crash.

According to State Patrol, Brooks was headed south on I-25 when she veered towards the shoulder.

Troopers said she tried to steer to the right and then lost control of her car. It ended up rolling and down an embankment.

Brooks and Banzhaf were both wearing seat belts, troopers said.

According to State Patrol, alcohol is considered a factor in this crash and their investigation is ongoing.
