Former GOAL teacher pleads guilty to sex assault on child

A former GOAL Academy teacher, arrested last year on suspicion she engaged in a sexual relationship with a teenage student, pleaded guilty to two charges Tuesday.

Susan Diane Christie, 44, pleaded guilty to attempt to commit sexual assault on a child, a Class 5 felony.

The crime is a lesser included offense to Christie’s original charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, a Class 4 felony.

According to Christie’s agreement, she will receive a deferred sentence, the length and conditions of which will be left to the court.

The probation department will oversee Christie during that time and if she complies with probation’s recommendations, she will avoid prison.
