Canon City man arrested for shooting gun at party

The Canon City Police Department has arrested a man accused of firing a shotgun at his own house party.

Two women called police around 1:00 a.m. Thursday to say they had been to a party in the 200 block of West Stanley.

The women reported that they decided to leave the party. The man throwing the party, 21-year-old Carlos Sanchez Cruz, allegedly became angry and threatened to shoot the women if they left.

Police say that as the women drove away, Cruz fired his shotgun.

Cruz was arrested under charges of attempted first degree assault, prohibited use of weapons and felony menacing without incident. He is being held at the Fremont County Detention Center on $6,000 bond.

No one was injured during the incident.

This investigation is ongoing. If anyone has additional information feel free to contact the Canon City Police Department at 719-276-5600 or you may call Crime Stoppers at 719-275-STOP and remain anonymous and possibly earn a reward..
