ShurFine ice cream voluntarily recalled due to undeclared allergens

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced a voluntary recall by Southwest Ice Cream Specialties of McKinney, Texas.

The company is voluntarily recalling ShurFine Brand Creamery Select (Premium Ice Cream) Dulce de Leche in 1.75-quart containers because it may contain praline pecan ice cream.

The product is packed with a ShurFine Praline Pecan lid, but bears the Dulce de Leche product labeling on the carton. The praline pecan ice cream contains wheat, soy and pecans not declared on the Dulce de Leche labeling.

The recall is limited to product marked with a “Best By” date of Nov. 8, 2014, with the UPC code 015400224840 and the plant code 48-43202-F.

Although there have been no reported cases of illness at this time, Southwest Ice Cream Specialties is taking this precautionary measure because the ice cream contains pecans, soy and wheat that are not declared on the packaging. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans, soy and/or wheat run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The voluntary product recall indicates this product was distributed by retail stores in Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. The product was sold at various retail locations throughout Colorado under the ShurFine brand name.

Anyone who may have purchased the ice cream from a Colorado retail location and has allergies to pecans, wheat or soy is urged to check the product coding and return any product matching that coding to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with questions may contact Southwest Ice Cream Specialties at 1-800-587-2259 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Central time, Mondays through Fridays.
