Man arrested in copper theft
Colorado Springs police have caught a man accused of trying to strip copper from a vacant home in Colorado Springs.
Police said the property owner caught the Jason Hawkins, 34, inside the home on the 2700 block of Arcadia Street at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said Hawkins threatened the property owner with a hammer and then rain off.
Police searched the neighborhood and found a truck with a raised hood in the 2900 block of Arcadia Street.
Investigators said a jacket inside the truck matched the description of the suspect, but the driver of the truck was not there.
After another search, police said they found Hawkins in hiding between two cars on the street. He was arrested on first degree burglary, according to Colorado Springs police.
