Mike MacIntyre introduced as new football coach for CU

Mike MacIntyre will be CU’s next head football coach, the university has confirmed. He was introduced to the press at 4 p.m. Monday.

The announcement and news conference Monday confirmed information from anonymous sources that began to swirl Monday morning.

The Daily Camera reported that MacIntyre is expected to sign a five-year contract, the terms of which are not known.

MacIntyre replaces Jon Embree, who was fired after a 1-11 record this season. The team’s only win was 35-34 at Washington State on Sept 23.

MacIntyre compared that situation at CU to what he encountered when he joined San Jose State.

“Yes, we’ve got a long way to go,” MacIntyre said, “but I’ve been there before and I know what to do.”

MacIntyre said he wanted to “build something special here in Colorado,” and alluded to the fact that his plans involve hiring some of his coaching staff from San Jose State.

“I will make you proud I promise you,” he said.
