No special prosecutor in Canon City Case

A judge has denied a request for a special prosecutor in the case of a former executive director of a family crisis center accused of embezzlement.

Andrea Hammond is charged with theft of more than $20,000 and making an unauthorized financial transaction.

The judge rejected claims the district attorney’s office has a conflict of interest because Hammond was previously employed there.

The agency where the embezzlement occurred works with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
