Southbound I-25 reopens after deadly crash

Both lanes have reopened on southbound I-25 following a deadly crash on Thursday morning.

Colorado State Patrol said the car involved in the crash was going the wrong way on I-25 near the Ray Nixon Road exit when it crashed head on into a FedEx semi-truck.

A 19-year-old Colorado Springs man who was driving the car was killed in the crash. According to State Patrol, he was not wearing his seat belt.

The truck driver, Steven Hall, 49, was not injured, but was visibly shaken up after the accident.

Troopers said they do not think Hall was speeding. In fact, they said he tried to do what he could to try to avoid the accident.

Charges have not been filed against Hall.

The car ended up in the median and the semi ended up on the right shoulder after the crash. Debris was scattered all over I-25, so the interstate remained closed all morning.
