Woman arrested in deadly hit and run
The Canon City Police Department has arrested a woman accused of hitting a bicyclist with her pickup truck and leaving the scene.
35-year-old Natalie Habig of Canon City was arrested on Thursday. Police say she struck a bicyclist who later died at the hospital.
Police say that the victim, now identified as 49-year-old Kyle Keefe, was hit by the pickup truck around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Leslie Lane and Field Avenue. Police found the man unconscious and he was transported to St. Thomas More Hospital. Police on Thursday announced that Keefe died as a result of his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene told police that they saw a small, dark-colored pickup truck travel south on Field Avenue and turn west on Leslie Lane. After receiving several tips, Canon City Police officers were able to identify and arrest Habig.
Habig is being held at the Fremont County Detention Center for investigation of vehicular homicide and hit and run causing death. Her bond is set at $15,000. KRDO NewsChannel 13 has requested a booking photo for Habig.
Canon City Police initially asked for help identifying Keefe because he was not carrying identification. They have since been able to identify him.
