Dancers donate to Waldo firefighting support

The latest donation for the aftermath of the Waldo Canyon fire came Wednesday from a dance studio near the burn area.

Artistry in Motion, located near the Mountain Shadows neighborhood ravaged by the late June wildfire, presented a symbolic $1,000 check to a representative of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. A crowd consisting of dancers, firefighters and police officers attended the ceremony.

The money will go to the Waldo Canyon Firefighters’ Fund, to benefit fire departments and related support efforts that assisted in firefighting, relief and recovery.

The studio raised the money last month by holding auctions, raffles and workshops. Some of the dancers, mainly children, were rewarded by touring a police patrol car and a fire engine in the studio’s parking lot.

Organizers said some of the dancers and their families were affected by the fire.

The fund has received a total of $140,000 to date.
