Free admission for Public Lands Day
Standard amenity fees will be waived on Forest Service land across the country next Saturday in recognition of National Public Lands Day.
Recreation sites across the country will be free, and volunteers are encouraged to turn out to do work such as trail maintenance or river bank cleanup on public lands.
The Forest Service says last year’s celebration resulted in about 1,500 miles of trails being built and about 100,000 trees, shrubs and other native plants being planted. Participants also removed about 500 tons of trash from recreation sites and contributed about $17 million through volunteer services to improve public lands.
