New wildfire in northern Colorado

Firefighters are getting the upper hand against a small wildfire burning in the Big Thompson Canyon in northern Colorado.

A single engine air tanker dropped slurry on the blaze on Wednesday and crews have built containment lines around the fire, which is in the Roosevelt National Forest. It’s estimated to be between three and five acres.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Tammy Williams said firefighters still want to reinforce those lines and expect to have it officially contained later in the day.

The fire is burning on a steep slope in the canyon up U.S. Highway 34 from the Dam Store outside Loveland.
