Old Colorado City music store thieves caught on camera
An Old Colorado City surveillance camera caught men masking their faces and carrying a sandbag moments before a nearby music store was burglarized.
The owner of Moondog Music on 25th Street near Colorado Avenue said he found a sandbag had been hurled through his glass storefront after police called him to the shop early Tuesday.
Owner Michael Judge said $8,000 worth of equipment was missing.
“Nine electric guitars and four basses and a few other items, a camera and a cellphone,” said Judge.
He said an employee from a business across the street came to him with some surveillance video that was captured just after 4 a.m. when the robbery happened.
Two guys are seen masking their faces while a third appears to act as a look out.
“You see the guys across the street walking over with a bag of sand on the shoulder of one of the guys,” said Judge.
While the images are difficult to make out, they do give some clues, like a round tattoo on one of the men’s leg, below his knee.
Judge said he’s now gotten a new security system. He said a burglary is a tough thing to deal with when your small business is just getting off the ground.
“We just opened a couple months ago, so it was something I worried about, but didn’t think it would happen so soon,” Judge said.
He said one of the guitars is a Les Paul cherry Sunburst and another is a Fender Telecaster B-Bender. Judge said he’s been working with police so area pawn shops are on the look out, and also checking websites like Craigslist.
