Man pleads guilty in fatal shooting in SW Colorado
A 56-year-old southwestern Colorado man who was charged in a fatal shooting has pleaded guilty to reduced charges.
The Cortez Journal reported Saturday that Clarence M. Lehi of Towaoc was arrested Nov. 5 for the death of Winslow Big Soldier. He pleaded guilty Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Several other charges, including first-degree murder, were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Lehi says the gun went off as Big Soldier came at him in a threatening manner. The assault charge was filed because a juvenile was hit by a ricocheting bullet during the altercation.
