Community Helps Disabled Woman
UPDATE: Denny’s Restaurants, Sierra High School, Feelin’ a Little Philly, and Dapps Pawn Shop, have setup collection boxes at their locations to help Dorothea.
As of August 31, Dorothea has received $1,673 in donations from the community and the YouTube video has received 1,601 views.
Learning social media can be difficult. Sometimes all one needs is a little motivation. For one Colorado Springs woman, it was her best friend who inspired her to log on and make a difference.
Anginita Hilton and her family made a YouTube video about her friend Dorothea Briers.
Hilton didn’t know how to use YouTube or how to make a video, but she wanted to spread an important message.
The video describes the life of Briers. She was hit by a drunk driver at the age of 6 in 1971. Briers was in a coma for 10 weeks and suffered brain damage to the right side. She doesn’t remember anything before the accident.
She is now 47 and struggles with daily life.
Briers is living in the same house she was living in at age 6, but is at risk of losing it in October because of back taxes.
Her house is also falling apart and is in desperate need of repair, said Hilton.
Hilton is asking for help to save and rebuild Briers home to improve her quality of life.
Briers would like to have a ramp to get her walker to the front door without going over steps. She also has difficulty going up the stairs in her home.
“When I was younger is wasn’t as hard to get around, now that I’m older, it’s kind of tough,” said Briers.
