Illegal Fireworks Spark Fountain Park Fire
A grass fire at Fountain Regional Park Thursday was sparked by fireworks, according to the Fountain Fire Chief.
The fire burned about an acre of grass at the park, which is on the west side of Hwy 85/87 on Duckwood Rd.
Fountain Fire Chief Darin Anstine said police were looking for the two people who set off the fireworks after witnesses described the pair to firefighters. Anstine said the culprits would be facing arson charges as well as $1,000 in fines and up to 90 days in jail for violating Fountain’s fireworks ban.
Anstine said pieces of the fireworks caused three small fires, which merged into one because of strong winds. He said it was very lucky firefighters extinguished the blaze before it was spread by the gusts.
