Escapee Captured In El Paso County
Teller County deputies have captured a man who escaped while being transported to jail.
Senior Airman, Herbert Mullens, was caught just before 1 p.m. Friday in western El Paso County — near the Teller County line.
Mullens, stationed at Peterson Air Force Base, fled from custody while being returned to Teller County jail on Wednesday night. TCSO says that Mullens escaped while he was in the bathroom in the McDonald’s in Woodland Park. The Sheriff’s Office says he was found in a stolen all-terrain vehicle.
Mullens has been returned to the Teller County jail to await trial.
He is being held in pretrial confinement pending charges of driving while intoxicated, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. He will face additional charges of providing false information to a police officer; and, likely, theft over $10,000, burglary, and theft of a vehicle.
Teller County Dispatch received two reports on Friday from citizens who believed they had seen Mullens near Rampart Range Rd. and Loy Creek Rd.
Deputies say the full details surrounding the escape are still under investigation.
