Fire Forces Families to Evacuate

Firefighters say the fire started in the fireplace of a home in the 6000 block of Red Hill Cr. and quickly spread. It started at about 2:30 a.m.

The family told firefighters the fire started in the fireplace and spread through the attic. Everyone was able to get out safely.

High winds blew embers onto the next house, forcing that family to evacuate as well; but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to that house.

The high winds made it difficult to get water on the flames as hose streams were being blown away from the fire.

The wet weather helped firefighters to keep it from spreading to a field behind the home.

Firefighters say the home where the fire started is a total loss.

At least one firefighter received minor injuries fighting the fire, firefighters said.

The Red Cross is helping the family deal with the fire.
