Two Canon City Schools Released From Lockdown

The Canon City Police Department says that two Canon City schools were locked down Tuesday afternoon because of a possible suspicious person in the area.

Police say that Canon City High School received a call from a parent who says he/she saw a person who might have had a weapon near the outdoor basketball courts. Canon City High School and Washington Elementary placed themselves on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon.

The schools released their lockdown status around 3:00 p.m. and loaded buses for departure.

Police say they did not locate anyone matching the description in the area but continued their patrol as everyone safely left the school.
