UPDATE: Canon City Police Locate Suicidal Man

Canon City Police have found the man who was reportedly suicidal and was possibly driving around the city.

The man was taken into protective custody around 6:15 p.m. Friday. He had contacted family, and then surrendered to Pueblo County Sheriff’s deputies peacefully. According to Fremont County authorities, he will not face criminal charges.

All Florence Re-2 schools were put on on secured perimeter as a precaution before he was found.

Canon City Re-1 initially had a secured perimeter. The safety measure was lifted as of 12:00 p.m.

According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, they were trying to locate a man who reported he would harm himself. The man called a suicide hotline and indicated he had a weapon. A hotline employee called police at 9:30 a.m.

The Sheriff’s Office says the man reported he had just lost his job and is depressed. The man’s wife works in the area near the schools.
