Update: Monument House Fire Extinguished

Several fire departments pooled their resources on Wednesday night to extinguish a house fire in Monument. Authorities said no one was hurt.

The fire was reported just before 9 p.m. at 2615 Crestwood Drive. Authorities said the fire was under control within 20 minutes and was confined mostly to the garage.

A family of three and two cats escaped unharmed, authorities said, but the house presently is not safe for them to live in. The Red Cross arrived to see to the family’s needs.

Authorities said the house was solar-powered with two electric cars stored inside, and the investigation will determine whether a faulty battery in one of the cars may have started the blaze.
