Let There Be Light
The repairs start on copper vandalized street lights in Colorado Springs. City Engineer Dave Krauth tells me the first areas to be fixed include I-25 and Cimarron and Bijou. Krauth added the repairs will be in a sequential process a little bit west of the interstate, towards the interstate and then the interstate north towards Fillmore. Krauth says weather permitting, “We are hoping to have them fixed by the end of the first quarter.”
The fix it of the copper vandalized lights will include a theft protection device to prevent future ripoffs of copper. Krauth also talked about the future of street lights in Colorado Springs. He told me that Monday afternoon begins a process to rewrite the standards that the city and Colorado Springs Utilities follow to light the roads.
Krauth says nothing will off limits to change when it comes to the future of street lights. The changes could include illumination, type of lights and how high or low the lights are or where they are placed. It’s hoped that the rewrite will be finished in nine months or less. You will also have your say in the light changes with field tests that you will be invited to, to help decide if you like the changes, too.
