Smoked Salmon Recall

Vita Food Products Inc. is recalling its smoked salmon. Classics Premium Sliced Smoked Atlanta Nova Salmon is potentially contaminated with Listeria.

Safeway has removed the salmon from its shelves in the state of Colorado. Customers who have the product in their refrigerator or freezer are advised not to consume it. The recalled salmon comes in 4 oz. black packages with a Vita logo centered at the bottom of the package. Each package contains four to five slices of smoked salmon in a vacuum sealed package labeled “SELL BY Dec 15, 2011 01961B” on the front of the package.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in children and the elderly. No confirmed illnesses have been reported. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Individuals experiencing any of these symptoms are advised to go to an emergency room immediately or contact their health care provider.

Vita is asking anyone who has purchased the product to call 1-800-989-8482.
