Memorial Hospital Experiencing Critical Blood Shortage
Memorial Health System is critically short of blood, according to a press release issued Wednesday.
Staffers say a bad shooting or other serious trauma could deplete the hospital’s supply. All blood types are needed.
A public blood drive was held Wednesday at the East Branch of the Pikes Peak Library, but more donations are needed.
The press release goes on to explain that blood shortages are common in the summer nation wide, but Memorial, which operates the busiest emergency department in the state, uses higher amounts of blood than many others.
Without enough donated blood, the hospital must turn to vendors who charge premium prices. In a worst-case, Memorial maybe forced to cancel elective surgeries.
To schedule your appointment to donate blood today at Memorial Hospital Central’s Blood Bank, call (719) 365-5411.
Children who are 16 or 17 years old may donate with parental consent.
