Sodium Cyanide Found In Apartment Near Body

A man was found dead in an apartment at 3214 N. Chestnut in Colorado Springs Monday afternoon.

Hazmat units were called to the apartment after an unknown chemical was found in the room.

The bottle holding the chemical was labeled as sodium cyanide and late Monday night firefighters confirmed that is what was in the container.

As a precaution, 6 people, including 4 first responders and 2 people from the complex were taken to the hospital after being exposed to the chemical.

No one has reported being sick, and no evacuations have been ordered.

The El Paso County Coroner has removed the body for testing, and expects to release more information on Tuesday.
