Autozone Shooting Victim Identified
The victim of the Autozone Shooting from last week has been identified. Police tell KRDO Newschannel 13 the victim is Joaquin Paniagua, 39 years old, from Colorado Springs.
A friend of the other shooting victim, Don Laroe, tells KRDO Newschannel 13 that Paniagua was trying to help Laroe as he was being robbed by the shooter.
Police arrested the suspect in the shooting yesterday. Ernest Schmidt, 60, was arrested him behind homes on Lakewood Circle around 10:30 am on Monday.
Schmidt is charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, aggravated robbery, and second degree kidnapping. Police also arrested Schmidt’s wife Dawn Morgan. The 35-year-old woman is charged with accessory to first degree murder.
