Auto Zone Murder Suspect Now In Jail
Police have confirmed they captured the suspect in the Auto Zone shooting Monday morning.
Police swarmed a neighborhood near Academy and Airport Monday morning. According to neighbors, they chased Ernest Schmidt, 60, across the Valley Hi Golf Course and arrested him behind homes on Lakewood Circle around 10:30 am.
Schmidt is charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, aggravated robbery, and second degree kidnapping. Police also arrested Schmidt’s wife Dawn Morgan. The 35-year-old woman is charged with accessory to first degree murder.
Neighbors said police were ready for a confrontation with some police pulling out assault rifles upon arriving on scene. Police did not release details about the arrest but did not indicate they needed to use force to capture Schmidt following the short chase.
