Money Matters: Pass discounts, insurance for upcoming Colorado ski season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Epic and Ikon season pass holders for the 2019/2020 season will receive credit towards a pass for the 2020/2021 ski season.

The ski season was abruptly cut short due to the coronavirus.

Ski resorts across the state shut down March 14, and Vail Resorts later announced they'd be closed for the remainder of the season. Arapahoe Basin announced that it will reopen for spring skiing on May 27.

Vail Resorts, the owner of Epic Pass, sent out emails on May 13 informing people of their personalized credit.

Depending on how many days you used your pass, you will receive a 20%-80% credit towards a 2020/2021 ski pass.

Epic is not offering refunds, only credit towards a pass for next year.

Epic is also offering free protection for the upcoming ski season.

According to the company's website, you can receive a refund on a 2020/2021 pass if job loss, injury, illness, or resort closures prevent you from skiing or snowboarding.

The Ikon Pass is also offering discounts.

Alterra, the company that owns Ikon Pass, has doubled the discount current pass holders will get if they buy a pass for next season.

Ikon has also extended the low pass prices. Customers have until June 17 to purchase passes at a discounted rate.
