Money Matters: Who qualifies for unemployment in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - As unemployment numbers continue to climb in Colorado, many are wondering if they qualify for unemployment benefits.

Simply put, you qualify for unemployment benefits in the state of Colorado if:

  • You are unemployed through no fault of your own
  • You are able, available and actively seeking work
  • You have earned $2,500 during your base pay
  • You have an ID proving your U.S. residency

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment will contact your previous employer(s) to determine whether or not you may qualify.

If you quit your job, you can still qualify for unemployment -- it all depends on your reasons for leaving the job.

If you are discharged from your job you can still be eligible to receive benefits.

After you have filed for unemployment, your claim will take 4-6 weeks to process.

While receiving unemployment, you must be actively looking for a job to maintain your eligibility.
