Neighbors oppose 5G tower going up in Colorado Springs neighborhood
An abandoned cell tower in The Bluffs neighborhood in northeast Colorado Springs has been approved as a 5G hotspot for cellphones, but neighbors in the area oppose the idea.
A group met Friday, saying the tower is not only an eyesore but is dangerous for their health and makes it difficult for people in the neighborhood to sell their homes.
The meeting, held at 8:30 a.m. at city hall, brought in people from all over the neighborhood, along with the planning commission for the tower.
Multiple people came up to the podium to speak. For the commission, the main reason to keep the tower includes the advances to technology that 5G would provide.
The residents’ appeal was upheld, putting a hold on the plan for the tower. The company behind the proposal, Vertical Bridge, can appeal by Sept. 23.
According to a report by the New York Times, multiple studies have shown that high-frequency waves are safe.
