Vista Ridge QB is one of the state’s best

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (KRDO) -- After an extended off-season, the Vista Ridge Wolves were so thrilled to get back on the football field, they threw up 66 points in their week one win. That shouldn't come as a surprise considering Brayden Dorman, their sophomore quarterback, is one of the best in the state.

"As far as quarterbacks, I've coached, (he is) definitely number one," says Wolves coach Jason Cauley. "I've coached several players in the states of Alabama and Hawaii who have ended up in the NFL, and he has that factor."

"I think everybody around me knows that I expect very highly out of my team. I feel like we can make it pretty far," Dorman says.

Dorman has already caught the attention of a number of big schools. This list includes Colorado, CSU, Iowa state, Mississippi, Washington State, Kansas and Kansas state. Coaches at all levels talk about quarterbacks possessing the "It" factor. Cauley goes one step further, saying, "He IS the 'It' factor."

After taking the head coaching job at Vista Ridge, Cauley sent his team the playbook to study while he made his move to Colorado Springs. Within two weeks, Dorman had memorized the entire thing. His work ethic and dedication to his craft is uncommon amongst most teenagers.

The attention Dorman receives comes with pressure, too. Dorman says he enjoys the pressure, just like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.

"You have to play good with pressure on you," Dorman says. "I feel like it helps my game and everyone else's game when they have pressure on them."

Vista Ridge has an embarrassment of riches on offense. They have an attacking defense that can force turnovers and give Dorman extra possessions. That's why they believe they can make school history.

"We've got to believe in each other, and work hard together," Dorman says. "When we do that... We think that we are very capable of winning a state championship this year."
