Air Force Unable To Rally Against Colorado State
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men’s basketball fell to Colorado State 78-65 in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. The setback snapped a three-game home win streak, dropping the Falcons to 9-10, 3-4 MW.
Air Force led for the first four minutes of the game, but Colorado State (13-7, 4-3 MW) took the lead for good at the 15:58 mark. The Rams held Air Force to 42 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from three-point range, its lowest percentage from three since the season-opener against Idaho State.
The Falcons trailed Colorado State 32-27 at the half. It was just a five point deficit despite Air Force shooting 31 percent from the field.
Air Force came back early in the second half, tying the game up twice and as late as 15:05 to play. The Rams went back up however and slowly built its lead late. Despite keeping the game close, the Falcons were never able to get over the hump as CSU went away with the win.
Colorado State had five players in double figures, led by guard Kris Martin’s 19 points. Center Nico Carvacho notched a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Seniors Lavelle Scottie and Sid Tomes led the Falcons with 16 points each. Tomes hit a season-high four three’s to go with five rebounds. Sophomore AJ Walker was the third Falcon in double-figures with 11 points. Walker added a team-high four assists.
Juniors Ameka Akaya and Chris Joyce led the Falcons with six points each off the bench. Akaya added two rebounds and Joyce had a team-high seven rebounds.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Utah State. The game tips at 9 pm MT and will be televised by ESPNU.
