Middle school teacher not returning to District 11 amid white supremacy group allegations

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs District 11 middle school teacher who was on leave for his alleged involvement in a white supremacist group is now gone from the district.

Andrew Stutts, a seventh-grade science teacher at North Middle School, was placed on leave on March 24, according to School District 11. The move came less than 24 hours after KRDO reported on the allegations against Stutts.

The Asatru Folk Assembly Tweeted out a photo of the teacher in July 2022 identifying Stutts as an apprentice 'folkbuilder,' a recruitment and event coordinator position within the group.

The Southern Poverty Law Center says the Asatru Folk Assembly is the largest Neo-Volkisch hate organization in the United States.

The Anti-Defamation League calls the Asatru Folk Assembly an extremist group, saying the group, "emphasizes white identity, claiming white ethnic Europeans are superior to other races, and proclaims the need to protect the pure white race from extinction.

Friday, KRDO obtained a resignation letter from Stutts to School District 11 through the Colorado Open Records Act. That resignation was amongst many approved at a school board meeting on Wednesday night.

The school district confirmed Stutts is still on leave, and will not return before school lets out for the summer. According to his letter of resignation, Stutts had already planned to leave the district at the end of the school year to find another job before the allegations came out. His resignation letter was submitted on March 22, 2023, citing a desire to be closer to his home.

Stutts' resignation was supposed to take effect at the end of the school year, but according to a district spokesperson, he will not be back before then.
