Cannabis clubs voted down by Springs City Council
Colorado Springs City Council issued its second and final vote Tuesday to close cannabis clubs.
The decision means no future clubs will be allowed to open in the Springs and existing clubs must shut down within the next eight years.
“A requirement of city government is not to provide people a place to smoke marijuana,” said Don Knight, District 1 city councilman.
But the owner of Studio A64 said it isn’t fair for the city to allow these businesses to open, then close them down years later.
“Instead of them learning and being open-minded they’re just shutting us out completely,” said Ambur Racek. “When people are screaming about the kids, there aren’t any kids here. I don’t even know where that logic comes in.”
A coalition of seven clubs have joined forces to sue the city over this decision.
“Something they enacted for years, in many cases, they banned eventually,” said attorney Robert Corry.
The group plans to file the suit in the next few days.
