Key players for Avalanche to miss next two games

The Colorado Avalanche say top scorers Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon will miss the next two games with knee injuries and be re-evaluated.

Duchene and MacKinnon won’t play against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday or against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. The Avalanche are currently one point ahead of the Wild for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Neither player was in the lineup Sunday when Colorado beat the Edmonton Oilers. Duchene leads Colorado with 56 points, while MacKinnon is second with 52.

Coach Patrick Roy said goaltender Semyon Varlamov will start against the Flyers and Wild. The Avalanche have nine games remaining in the regular season.
