Woman convicted of dragging tow-truck driver will not get a new trial

The woman who dragged a tow truck driver to his death five years ago appealed her conviction, and lost.

Detra Farries’ former trial attorney confirmed to KRDO NewsChannel 13 earlier this month that the appeal process has been underway for several years, originally filed in June 2013.

In February 2011, Farries drove off as Allen Lew Rose was preparing to tow her SUV. He got caught in a cable he had attached to her vehicle and was dragged for more than a mile. Farries continued driving after Rose’s body was left in the roadway.

Farries was sentenced to 20 years for leaving the scene of an accident in 2012, and 12-year sentences for both manslaughter and vehicular homicide. Prosecutors asked for the maximum sentence of 24 years.
