Veteran killed in Black Friday shooting remembered

Friends and family are mourning the death of the three people killed in the Black Friday shooting at Planned Parenthood.

One of the victims, 29-year-old Ke’Arre Stewart, was an Army veteran who served in Iraq.

“You could say, ‘Stewart, go up that mountain and go get those bad guys,’ and he would go without asking a question. He’d do it and be successful at it,” his friend Tony Fisher said. “He was one of the toughest infantry privates that I ever met, just a tough guy that loved his country, loved his wife and children at the time.”

Fisher and Stewart met at Fort Hood, and the two served in Iraq. But they became close friends just a few months ago, when they ran into each other in Colorado Springs.

“It was ridiculous,” he said. “We were both really excited to see each other.”

The two spent Thanksgiving together, and they were supposed to watch the Broncos game together Sunday. Fisher is still coming to terms with the loss of his friend.

“I’m sorry that some jerk took the life of an American hero, somebody that already paid their debt and laid their life out on the line. For what?” he said.

Fisher wants Stewart remembered for who he was.

“He was a real salt of the earth kind of guy,” he said. “The kind of guy you wanted on your team or your squad.”
