Snowy weather keeping people busy in Pueblo

The snowy weather gave people plenty to do on Friday.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said there were at least 25 snowplows clearing roads all over Pueblo County.

It said it used more than 10,000 gallons of liquid deicer and more than 100 tons of sand-salt mix.

Driver Tamara Housh said not only did she bring her Christmas shopping list, she also packed her patience.

“Slick and compact snow, but as long as you took it easy you could make it to where you are going,” she said.

The crowds of people also got off to a late start for Black Friday shopping in the Steel City.

Store managers who didn’t want to be identified said the cold weather and slick roads played roles in the amount of shoppers who chose to go out in the early morning.

Shopper Jodie Roman said the biggest shopping day of the year was quiet this year.

“It was nice, no crowd at all, no line to check out, so it was very nice,” she said.

The crowds started to get bigger later in the day.

While most people were shopping, others were helping those in need.

Members of the Victory Life Ministry Church handed out coffee and clothes.

Church members said they do this every year outside the Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen.

“I just love seeing happy faces and stuff when the people who need help and we love helping as much as we can,” organizer Nathan Urenda said.

The church collected more than 1,000 items of clothes to give out to people in need.
