Firefighters train in high places for your safety

Firefighters in El Paso County are participating in training that puts them in high places.

Black Forest, Colorado Spring and Falcon firefighters conducted high-rise firefighting training at St. Francis Medical Center in northeast Colorado Springs.

Firefighters said this was a unique opportunity because the hospital was still operating while they were putting out a simulated fire at the top of the hospital. Fire operations were on the fourth floor. Firefighters say high-rise is considered anything over four stories.

“It makes it a little more complicated. That’s what we do, we overcome challenges. We fix things on a daily basis. They give us a problem and we work around it,” firefighter paramedic Jeff Wanderscheid said.

The fire departments hope to do this training on a yearly basis.
