Humane Society of Pikes Peak Region hopes to collect enough funds for every animal in need

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- On this 'Giving Tuesday' the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is raising money to help neglected, homeless, and injured animals. 

Currently, there are about 100 animals inside the Humane Society at Pikes Peak that need extra care.

The donations collected Tuesday will help those dogs and cats that are preparing for surgeries and other medical treatments. 

"So any donations that are made today will go to taking care of animals we have in our care and Luann is just one example of pets that come in on a daily basis," said the Public Relations Officer at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Cody Costra.

The non-profit helps around 24,000 animals every year. Costra said taking care of each animal is expensive. 

"Luann came to us in August, she was only about 4 weeks old and she was tiny, she was lethargic, was underweight and she had scabs all over her body," added Costra.  

Within the last year, the cost of medical supplies and animal vet care increased significantly with record inflation prices. Making it difficult to keep pets like Luann happy and healthy.

"Luann has been with us for 4 months and she needs a lot of that medical care and you know her food and everything as well," said Costra.  

This 'Giving Tuesday,' the Pikes Peak Humane Society hopes to raise at least $45,000.

The donations raised today will be amplified with Met Life Pet Insurance, matching $30,000 of the funds collected. 

"And the really cool thing about today too is that our friends at Met Life Pet Insurance are matching donations up to $30,000. So when you donate today your donations are actually doubled."
