COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- In just a few hours, Sam and Joe Baker hope to take their final steps up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. If they do so, Sam will become the youngest climber to ever reach the top.

KRDO Facetimed with the duo Friday morning to get an update on the journey so far, on the fourth and final day of the trek.

Sam and Joe are carrying all their own gear, plus food and water. As if the climb wasn't the hardest part, they are sleeping on the side of the wall in what's called a port-a-ledge.

"My body is getting exhausted, but we are ready," says Joe. "Sam is way tougher than me and I expected on this huge climb for him to cry a couple times and he has not cried yet, he has been really tough."

This morning before they started climbing they held out a banner for mom, Ann, who is watching down in the valley. She is taking the roughly eight-mile hike up El Capitan right now so she can met the boys at the top and celebrate. They hope to be up there before the sun sets. We will keep you posted!
