COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs museum has been recognized by the travel site Tripadvisor.

“Based on a full year of Tripadvisor reviews, the Travelers’ Choice Award honors the best in travel, recognizing the places that delivered the most exceptional experiences,” according to the notification received by the museum. “You’re in the top 1% of things to do worldwide.”

The National Museum of World War II Aviation, located in Colorado Springs, is recognized by Tripadvisor as a 2022 Travelers’ Choice “Best of the Best” award winner for Top Attractions, ranking in the top one percent of attractions.

“This recognition acknowledges the ongoing work and dedication of our more than 200 museum volunteers who lead tours, design and build exhibits, restore aircraft and artifacts, and keep the museum in top shape,” said Bill Klaers, President, and CEO of the museum. “This is their award, and it’s great recognition for the jobs they do every day.”

The National Museum of World War II Aviation documents the role that military aviation played in the emergence of the United States as a world power during the Second World War and is focused on education.

The cornerstone of their educational effort is a highly successful K-12 program that reaches beyond the walls of the museum and into the classroom where students learn STEM concepts within the historical context of the World War II era.

The National Museum of World War II Aviation is located on a 21-acre site on the west side of the Colorado Springs Airport near Powers Boulevard. It includes exhibit galleries, volunteer workshops, and a state-of-the-art World War II aircraft restoration facility. The museum anticipates expanding its exhibit and display area in the future.
