State troopers watchful of holiday traffic
The Colorado State Patrol said despite heavier traffic during the holiday weekend, there will be no increased traffic enforcement.
“It’s pretty much business as usual,” said Trooper Kevin Hamill.
However, Hamill said troopers wrote many citations Thursday for speeding, failing to wear a seat belt and aggressive driving.
“We’ve seen plenty of safe driving,” he said. “But a lot of individuals are in a hurry to get where they’re going, and the time that they’re going to save — if any at all — in getting there quicker or putting other people in harm’s way or risk in getting where they’re going, is not worth the risk.”
Hamill said some of the violators are from out of town and unfamiliar with local streets, roads and traffic flow.
“That’s even more of a reason to slow down,” he said.
As of Thursday evening, troopers reported no serious accidents or deaths on area highways.
“Let’s hope it stays that way,” Hamill said. “Not drinking while driving will help a lot.”
