Stadium amendment delayed
An amendment to the city’s constitution to put a stadium question on the April ballot is delayed again.
The city council voted 5-4 to postpone the amendment – which would allow voters to approve a stadium in Colorado Springs.
Councilman Joel Miller sponsored the amendment and believes it was cut and dry, but not everyone saw it that way.
“We are not against a citizen vote. We’re for a citizen vote,” said Laura Neumann, spokeswoman for City For Champions. “We just want the language to not be as stringent as it presently.”
“It’s about allowing citizens to vote on any public funding of a city-built stadium or a stadium built by someone else that’s funded by the city,” said Councilman Joel Miller. “It’s a pretty simple proposal.”
Council President Keith King has proposed an amendment, which will be considered at the next work session, and voted on in the December meeting.
