Colorado Dems win back 2 seats lost over gun bills

Colorado Democrats have won back two seats they lost in last year’s recall over gun control measures.

Republican George Rivera, a former deputy police chief, lost to Leroy Garcia in Pueblo while Michael Merrifield beat Bernie Herpin, a former member of the Colorado Springs City Council, in Colorado Springs. The Democratic candidates each won by about 10 points in Tuesday’s election.

Last September, voters unhappy about Democratic legislation limiting the size of ammunition magazines and expanding gun background checks as well as the speed in which they were enacted ousted two Democratic senators, John Morse and Angela Giron.
