Snow in Woodland Park makes morning travel difficult Saturday morning

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (KRDO)-- Early Saturday morning, it was quiet at the Hungry Bear.

"Yea, it's going to be a slow start," said Tony Wendt, with Hungry Bear.

The biggest snow fall of the year so far, meant people had to dig and plow themselves out. Residents say they saw anywhere from 18 to 22 inches.

"I had to plow first so we could get in here because the staff called off," said Wendt.

Wendt says taking a snow day wasn't an option.

"Customer service. Making up for covid," said Wendt.

The close to two feet of snow at Mueller State Park also canceled a big day for runners. The day was scheduled for the Great Divide Ultra.

"We were ready for for an adventure. We were going to to run a 50k at Mueller State Park, but it is what it is, it’s may in Colorado," said Suzanne Collins from Littleton.

While the snow has changed up some plans, but it was a welcomed sight.

"I mean we’re sad that the race is canceled but glad for the moisture we need it," said Michelle Hart from Littleton.

"I’m glad this put out the fire over in Cripple Creek. That’s our biggest danger up here when we don’t have winters, rain," said Wendt.
