Family speaks about “stranger danger” incident

A Colorado Springs mom says her maternal instinct kicked in when a stranger got out of his truck with his eyes on her 2-year-old daughter.

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 4) near Bott Avenue and 21st Street.

“My daughter was outside playing in her (toy) car and before I knew it, there was a truck that came up and the guy tried to get out of the vehicle,” said mom, Jamie.

She said there were two men in the truck, and they were about 20 or 30 feet away from her daughter. She said she was nearby moving furniture into her car, and not necessarily visible from the road.

“That’s when I knew with my maternal instincts that something was wrong,” Jamie said. “I ran out and started yelling at them.”

She said the man’s eyes got big, he got back in the truck and it sped off.

“Anger overtook me and I grabbed my daughter and ran off towards the road, trying to get a license plate, but I couldn’t in time,” she said.

Police said they notified a nearby daycare facility and Midland Elementary School as a precaution.

The pickup truck involved is described as a newer model extended cab, possibly a Ford. The truck is silver and the side windows on the extended cab may have been tinted darker than the rest of the windows on the vehicle.

The passenger in the truck is described as a Hispanic male in his late 20s to early 30s. He may have had a dark beard and been wearing a beanie, according to police.

The driver is described as a Hispanic male in his late 20s to early 30s with dark hair. The woman told police that the driver of the truck had “big” eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000.
